AGIJ e.V. - The umbrella association of international youth organisations
The AGIJ is...
the umbrella association of the international youth organisations in Hamburg. The AGIJ is a registered nonprofit-organisation and state-acknowledged youth association. With its 16 associated youth organisations the AGIJ reaches more than 5000 young people in and around Hamburg. The principles of our work are individual responsibility and the help for others to help themselves.
The AGIJ supports...
and coordinates the work of the associated organisations. We advise the particular youth communities in organisational, financial and operational questions and represent common interests in public, while we spread the idea to help others to help themselves and the aim of self-responsibility on all levels.
The AGIJ organises...
transcultural and -organisational activities like international youth exchanges, educational seminars, computer- and video-courses, cultural evenings, exhibitions, readings etc. Furthermore, we regularly publish newsletters, brochures and short infos.
The AGIJ fights...
for an equal political participation of the younger generation of migrants, for humane laws for immigrants and asylum seekers, for equal opportunities especially in schools and apprenticeships. For young migrants of the second and third generation we call for the opportunity to obtain double citizenship as the juristical expression of our bicultural identity.
the self-confident young person with a bicultural background is an enrichment for society. But only those who are accepted in their entireness can integrate themselves. And only those who accept themselves in the entireness can impart something positive. Unfortunately, we are still relegated to marginal groups or lamentable objects.
While being aware of the necessity of helping others to help themselves, we are shaped by a growing political and social self-confidence. Integration yes, Assimilation no – this maxim is an indispensable premise for solidarity and social peace. Many young people from all over the world work for it under the roof of the AGIJ.
The AGIJ informs...
about the voluntary activities of the young migrants and their opinion on political, social and cultural topics. An important concern is to revise the prejudices, that are existent in society about the „foreign“ youth, with facts, assumptions and arguments. For this, we use our website and many other public channels.
